Materials
Do you use zinc alloy? Why is it not recommended for premium products?
Yes, we offer zinc alloy for price-sensitive projects, but we do not recommend it for premium bags and luggage. Zinc alloy is a die-cast material with a plated surface: once the plating wears or chips, the gray base metal shows through and the part cannot be re-polished or re-plated. It is also more brittle than brass, so thin castings can snap under load. Solid brass and stainless steel cost more upfront but age gracefully and can be refinished — which is why serious brands choose them for hardware that carries the logo.
Will stainless steel hardware rust?
Not under normal use. The 304 and 316 stainless steel we use for bag hardware contains chromium that forms a self-healing passive layer, so it resists rust in daily conditions, including humidity and sweat. Corrosion only becomes a risk in extreme chloride environments or when low-grade 201 steel is substituted — a common cost-cutting trick we refuse to use. For marine or outdoor products we recommend 316, which adds molybdenum for extra chloride resistance. Material certificates can confirm the exact grade in your order.
Will brass hardware oxidize or tarnish? How do you handle it?
Raw brass naturally oxidizes and darkens over time, but finished brass hardware from our factory is protected. Every piece receives electroplating or PVD coating plus a clear e-coating (lacquer) layer that seals the surface against air and moisture, keeping the color stable for years. For intentional vintage looks we apply antique brass finishes with the patina sealed under lacquer. If solid brass hardware ever does tarnish after years of service, it can simply be re-polished — one of the key advantages of solid brass over plated zinc alloy.
Can you provide material certificates or test reports?
Yes. We provide material certificates (mill certificates) for the brass and stainless steel used in your order, issued per batch on request. For independent verification we arrange third-party testing through SGS, Intertek or BV — covering composition analysis by spectrometer, plus compliance tests such as nickel release or lead content. Test reports typically take about one week. Many of our EU and US clients keep these documents on file for retailer audits and customs, and we recommend requesting them at the quotation stage so testing is scheduled alongside production.
Do weight differences between materials matter for handbags?
Yes, noticeably. Solid brass is about 10–15% denser than zinc alloy and roughly twice the weight of aluminum for the same part, while stainless steel sits close to brass. On a handbag with a full hardware set — lock, buckles, rings, chain, feet — the total can differ by 100–200 grams between materials. Many premium brands actually prefer the reassuring heft of brass as a quality signal. If weight is a concern, for example on large tote bags, our engineers can mix materials or slim down non-visible sections to hit your target.
What material do you recommend for load-bearing parts like handles and trolley bases?
For load-bearing hardware we recommend 304 stainless steel or forged solid brass, never thin zinc alloy castings. Stainless steel offers the best strength-to-cost ratio for handles, D-rings, trolley bases and corner protectors on hard cases, and it resists the sweat and moisture that handles see daily. Critical parts are verified with pull tests — our standard handle assemblies are tested well beyond typical luggage loads. Share your weight requirements and case dimensions, and our engineers will specify material thickness and attachment structure accordingly.
Can you make hardware from titanium or aluminum alloy?
Aluminum alloy, yes; titanium, on request. Aluminum works well for trolley system components and lightweight case frames, and we anodize it in custom colors. It is not ideal for small decorative fittings, which look and feel better in brass or stainless steel. Titanium offers exceptional strength-to-weight and corrosion resistance for very high-end projects, but machining costs are several times higher and minimums apply, so we typically recommend it only for flagship products. Tell our engineers your performance target and budget — we will advise whether titanium genuinely adds value.
How can I confirm the goods I receive match the promised material?
Three layers of assurance. First, every order ships with material certificates stating the exact grade — for example 304 stainless steel or H62/H65 brass. Second, your approved golden sample anchors production, and you can compare weight, finish and magnetism of bulk goods against it. Third, we welcome third-party verification: SGS, Intertek or BV can test composition by spectrometer on randomly drawn pieces, arranged by you or by us. If any batch ever failed to match the agreed specification, we would remake or refund it — that commitment goes into the contract.
